Description

wood, polychrome paint, metal tags, “gash” on the cheek, abundant feather ornament, dam., insect caused missing parts, fine cracks, base.
“Kyäsä” is the most important mask type of the “dye” mask ensemble, a large group of human- and animal-faced masks wearing abundant raphia costumes. “Kyäsä” represents a strong man, a kind of war leader. Carrying a mighty tuft of feathers “fäkyä” on his head, a wooden knife in his hand and animal skin at his back, characteristic feature is a large gash on his cheek.


The object Mask “kyäsä” with the object ID 3043410 was last part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction at March 10, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 208 achieved a sales price of EUR 550.
