Description
light wood, kaolin, polychrome paint, accentuated horizontal brow line, coated with engraved geometrical patterns, dam., missing parts through insect caused damage (above all on the left side of the face, upper rim, backside), paint chipped off;
flat masks are for the most part strictly confined to the Tsai group of the Teke tribe and show an abstract human face. They are used by members of the “kidumu” society.
The object Mask “kidumu” with the object ID 3035354 was part of the auction 74th tribal art auction on September 7, 2013. The object with the lot number 408 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,200 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
