Description

wood, plant fibre,

The face with the long projection under the chin, is worn horizontally on the head like a baseball cap. Several Pende specialists explain that the headdress incarnates the body of a deceased person which is being watched over. Its dance goes back to an archaic ritual through which the masquerade would release the spirits of the deceased of the village.
