Description

wood, brown patina, remains of paint, nassa snails, metal teeth, min. dam., small holes (fabric), paint rubbed off.
When masks once have left their place of origin, their original function can not clearly be determined. Present mask can be attributed as “deangle” or “tankagle” mask type. “Deangle” masks belong to the circumcision camps (“mbon”) of young boys and girls. “Tankagle” means pantomimic dancing mask figure and exclusively performs for entertainment.


The object Mask “deangle” or “tankagle” with the object ID 3043665 was part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction on March 10, 2018. The object with the lot number 202 achieved a sales price of EUR 3,800 with an asking price of EUR 2,500.
