wood, pigments, collection number “L67-19-22”

The “deangle” mask characters belong to the circumcision camps (“mbon”) and they are responsible for food and protection of the initiates.

Each “deangle” has its own name.

One for example was called “The food-palaver spoils our good humor” because it has the habit of snapping up the choiciest morsels of a meal to carry them off to its forest lair.

Another was called “Come and look at me”, for it fancies itself to be so attractive that it causes a sensation.

The object Mask “deangle” with the object ID 3044014 was last part of the auction 89th Tribal Art Auction at July 7, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 207 achieved a sales price of EUR 500.
