Description
wood, blackish brown and reddish brown patina, the eyezone deepened in a horizontal line, narrow see slits with band-shaped metal framing, raised vertical forehead ridge, diamond-shaped mouth with drilled holes in the upper lip (originally inserted teeth missing), drilled holes in several rows around the rim, slightly dam. (nose, mouth), abrasion of paint, base;
can be ascribed to the type of “deangle” or “tankagle” masks, two mask types which can hardly be distinguished. “Deangle” belongs to the circumcision camps, while “tankagle” purely served for entertainment. It is accompanied by a bonnet “komo” above the forehead, which might once have been attached to the drilled holes of present mask.
The object Mask with the object ID 3037807 was last part of the auction 78th tribal art auction at October 18, 2014 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 224.
