Description

wood, greyish brown patina, remains of pigments, raised eyes with narrow slits, horn-like projections at the cheeks, old collection label, pierced around the rim., traces of insect caused damage and abrasion, cracks;
the Wobe, who belong to the ethnical group of the Wè (sometimes called “the Northern Wè”), live along the western Ivory Coast, to the east of the Dan and to the northwest of the Niabwa. As a rule Wobe masks show a much softer line than those of their southern relatives. They are influenced by the Dan, especially by the sub-group of the Tura, living in the north and using beak masks likewise the Wobe.
