Description

wood, dark brown patina, kaolin, showing zoomorphic als well as anthropomorphic features, a striking broad mouth with visible teeth, crowned by three reptile-like animals, amalgamated in parts, min. dam., traces of insect caused damage and abrasion, cracks, base;
Babanki masks retain the imposing presence which characterizes Grassfield art, but are without its aggressive expressionist quality. It is the “prettiest” style of the Grassfields.
