Description
brass, damaged
Ldamie, a brass caster from Zonleh in northeastern Liberia, spent most of his life in Ga-ple. Little is known about his exact dates, though his work likely falls mainly in the 1920s and 1930s.
He learned brass casting from his relative Munmie and refined his craft by transforming everyday village scenes into metal genre figures.
Ldamie drew his artistic inspiration from dreams, which in Dan belief serve as a channel to the spiritual force “dü,” and which helped shape his reputation as a celebrated artist.
