Male pair of twin figures "ere ibeji" · Nigeria, Yoruba, Oyo, Igbuke Style · ID: 3046539
Walter Grasser, Munich, Germany
Description
wood, colour pigments, glass beads, cowry shells, collection label, rest.
The twin figures that have become known as “Oyo-Ibeji” are stylistically largely uniform in design. This carving style was shaped by the Igbuke carving family. Other carving families in Oyo adopted this style. Therefore, today it is hardly possible to determine who carved what, as the Oyo carvers did not “sign” their works like some Abeokuta carvers.
The object Male pair of twin figures “ere ibeji” with the object ID 3046539 was last part of the auction 97th Auction at November 6, 2021 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 88 achieved a sales price of EUR 600.
