Description

wood, matt shiny brown patina, black paint, five strings of glass beads (coated with brown patina as well), drilled pupils (nail heads missing but one), typical Abeokuta carving style characteristics: high crested coiffure, Egba tribal marks, oversized hands, loin cloth, slightly dam. (mouth), abrasion of paint, minor missing parts through insect caused damage (coiffure of one of the figures/base of the second one);
in the style of the famous Akinyode family of carvers.


The object Male pair of twin figures “ere ibeji” with the object ID 3038660 was part of the auction 80th Tribal Art Auction on June 27, 2015. The object with the lot number 182 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,800 with an asking price of EUR 1,500.
