Description

wood, brown patina, kaolin, inserted pupils, spread with dark mass, slightly dam., abrasion of paint, cracks, rep., small traces of insect caused damage.
Masks are owned by several constituencies within Grassfield kingdoms, but primarily by the regulatory society “kwifoyn” and important lineages. The masks perform publicly at the commemorative death celebrations of Fons and title-holders and at the kingdoms annual dance, a high point of celebration during the festive cycle of the dry season.


The object Male helmet mask with the object ID 3043678 was last part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction at March 10, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 343 achieved a sales price of EUR 450.
