This sculpture shows the posture and physiognomy characteristic for ancestor figures of the Congo region.
Its simplified, rather coarse formal language, together with asymmetrical moments, creates a highly expressive overall effect.
Particularly on the head, but also on the body, there are traces of a sticky black sacrificial patina, indicating that the figure was used extensively in cult practices.
