Description

wood, red, white and black pigment, shell inlay, black clay-like mass, red seed kernels, list number “L.1602/445”, “L. 1602/445 Kol.Mus.B.” and “L 1602/445 Kol.Mus” handwritten on reverse, missing parts (shell inlay of the left eye, left forearm and palm leaf stem), rest., base

The German Colonial Museum in the Moabit district of Berlin existed from 1899 to 1915. Parts of the holdings (a total of 3342 objects) were sold to the Linden Museum Stuttgart. The date of purchase is recorded as 28.03.1917.

Original detail: the face of the figure is largely hidden behind a carved palm leaf.
