not available anymore
Provenance
Belgian Private Collection
Size
H: 108 cm
H: 42.5 inch

Description

wood, magical charge (small opening at shoulder level), rep. (base, thumb), breakages (shoulders)

This rare work impresses with its exceptional size and the expressiveness of the figures.

Except for one (about 40 cm smaller) caryatid stool, which was offered on December 4, 2009 at Christie’s, Paris (lot 83), nothing comparable could be found in the literature.

Due to its size, the stool may have served for prestigious purposes and had once been the property of a major and wealthy chief or notable.
