Description

wood, brown shiny patina, three leopards (dotted pattern) with anthropomorphic heads as caryatid figures, slightly dam., breakages (ring-shaped base), cracks (seat).
In the Cameroon Grassfields stools are an important part of a chiefs regalias. The leopard embodies certain attributes like speediness, survivability and aggressiveness which were transferred on the king. So he became the most important royal symbol, like an “alter ego” of the king.
