"Kyogen" theatre mask, "oji" (grandfather) · Japan · ID: 3045061
Description
wood, gypsum, colour pigments, animal hair, silk, signature in pokerwork on the backside
“Kyogen” was performed as an intermission of sorts between “no” acts. However, its content is not at all similar to the formal, symbolic, and solemn “no” theatre. “Kyogen” is a comic form, and its primary goal is to make its audience laugh.
The object “Kyogen” theatre mask, “oji” (grandfather) with the object ID 3045061 was last part of the auction 90.I Tribal Art and 90.II Contemporary Native American Art at November 17, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 20.
