Description

wood, encrusted blackish brown patina, traces of pigment, carrying a slightly hollowed circular crest on the head, abundant scarification marks, dam., insect caused missing parts (neck, back, above all area of legs and base), rep. (breakage: right arm), collection number “AJP 1373” on white ground (headdress), base;
possibly a depiction of “nommo”, wearing a wooden bowl on the head serving as protection of the sun and for eating as well. “Nommo” are called the eight messengers sent down to earth by the creator-god “amma” in order to generate the human race.


The object Kneeling figure with lip plug with the object ID 3042464 was last part of the auction 86th Tribal Art Auction at May 27, 2017 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 193.
