Description

wood, blackish brown sacrificial patina, min. dam., right breast missing, insect caused damage, base;
the kneeling posture is a common theme in Dogon art, especially in sculptures of women. Dogon women assume this kneeling pose at funerals, as a sign of grief and gratitude to the deceased for a productive life.
