wood, matt black patina, remains of white, red and green pigment, receptacle originally wih lid in shape of a rooster, slightly dam., traces of insect caused damage, abrasion of paint/repainted.
Gift-bowls such as this adorned the reception halls of many kings throughout Yorubaland. They were used for keeping kola nuts “obi” and other presents given to important visitors by the king.
