Kneeling bowl bearer "olomeye" · Nigeria, Yoruba · ID: 3030960
Description
wood, dark brown patina, dam., insect caused damage (left knee);
figures of a kneeling woman offering a bowl can be seen in many Yoruba shrines. It is unlikely that the figure had a male companion, as it is often the case for female figures of “eshu”. For this reason it probably represents a female worshipper and not the trickster-god “eshu” himself in female form.
The object Kneeling bowl bearer “olomeye” with the object ID 3030960 was last part of the auction 68th tribal art auction at March 3, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 393 achieved a sales price of EUR 650.
