Probably deriving from the Akparapong. The Akparabong are an Ejagham clan living along the Aweyong, an upper Cross River tributary.

They produce for their “ekpe” society refined skin-covered dance crests and helmet masks of a distinctive style often incorrectly thought of as classic Ekoi.
