Description

wood, lusterless patina, polychrome patina, carved with a bird, abundant grass fibre cuff at the bottom, rep. (breakage bird, left cheek), fine cracks, slight traces of abrasion;
mask type known as “hemba”, which is spread all over the Suku area and which was used at initiation rites for young boys.


The object Helmet mask “hemba” with the object ID 3035633 was last part of the auction 74th tribal art auction at September 7, 2013 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 413 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000.
