Description

wood, polychrome paint, incised lines dividing the facial plane into geometric compartments which are accentuated by different colours, eyelashes made from real hair, inserted wooden teeth, crowned by a high head crest, chin plug, pierced around the rim, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
masks are the most important artifacts made by the Bobo people. They appear at three important events - initiation celebrations for young boys, harvest festivals and at funeral ceremonies.


The object Helmet mask “bolo” with the object ID 3032926 was last part of the auction 69th tribal art auction at June 2, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 212 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,200.
