Description
terracotta, greyish brown patina, regular facial features with closed eyes, scarification marks on the temples, hollowed, missing parts (skullcap), traces of abrasion, base;
probably a memorial head “mma”. Such objects were reserved for royal families and were used at funeral services, which mostly took place about 40 days after the passing away (ideally when the dead had reached ancestry status). Finally they were placed on the grave or in the graveyard.
