Depicted is a scene from the life of Shinran, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism. According to legend, Shinran traveled through Japan to spread his teachings. On one occasion, he was denied a place to sleep, whereupon he spent the night outside in the snow, using a stone as a pillow.


The object Hanging scroll, late 19th century with the object ID 3052315 was part of the auction Collectors’ Items Sale on September 24, 2025, lot number 4 at that time and is currently available for EUR 450 in Open sale.
