According to Plaschke / Zirngibl, these shields were used for training purposes during the military training of Tutsi warriors.
Field photos and films from the Kivu area prove that they were also used in Tutsi dance performances where they were part of the costumed elite dancers “ntore”.
The object Hand shield, before 1914 with the object ID 3045531 was last part of the auction 92nd Tribal Art Auction at June 29, 2019 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 41.
