The general term for those Bidjogo figures is “iran”, a Creole word, although each such image also bears a more specific name. An “iran” can belong to an individual or to an entire village. In either instance it is given offerings and appealed for a wide range of personal and communal concerns such as bountiful crops, civil disputes and illness.
