Description

tapering wooden peg with umbrella-like superstructure, made of leaves sewn together and strengthened by red fabric and rattan struts on the underside, elaborate fine work, good condition;
the hairpin served as ornament, but for scratching as well, which was documented by H. Vogt, 1931: “never missing … is a hairpin for scratching…”
