Such hair drops are worn for ornament by men from Great Lakes and Plains tribes. It would be tied to the men’s hair. Hair drops even had ceremonial importance. One Piegan Blackfeet hairdrop was worn to bring prosperity and included horse hair to protect the owner’s horse.
