Description

brass sheet, three containers of round form in various sizes, one rectangular box with fastener, each rising from a foot, partly in openwork design, decorated with chiselled and chased motifs, slightly dam., bottom of the rectangular box loosened, in some places min. deformed rims, traces of corrosion (inside);
these receptacles were used for storing and heating sheabutter, which played an important role as a cosmetic, a fuel and as a foodstuff. Sometimes they were used for storing gold dust as well.


The object Group of four containers “forowa” with the object ID 3036244 was last part of the auction 76th tribal art auction at March 22, 2014 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 401 achieved a sales price of EUR 200.
