Description

copper, plated with silver, hexagonal plate with engraved cop and surrounding lettering “Secretum Sigillum” (= secret seal), the profiled ring band bears the inscription twice: “Lexus Ante Peransiens per me” and “Lexus Antem (Autem) Transiens per me” (= through me, you to the law)

The ring is modeled on the signet ring of Edward of Woodstock, known as the Black Prince, and was likely made in the late 19th century. The original was discovered in Montpensier in 1866.


The object Gothic signet ring, ca. 1340 / 1380 with the object ID 3051443 was last part of the auction Collectors’ Items Sale at September 24, 2025 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 61 achieved a sales price of EUR 200.
