Gebauer reports that these figures were placed at ancestral shrines where they had a protective function and were called “tadop” (Gebauer, 1979, M 28) or served the souls of departed ancestors.
More recent research suggests that they were ritually used for healing ceremonies by special associations, such as the “suàgà” society.
The object Figure “tadep” of “suàgà” society with the object ID 3047136 was part of the auction 95th Tribal Art Auction on October 24, 2020. The object with the lot number 185 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,300 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
