Description

wood, reddish brown patina, remains of black and silver-coloured paint, a gun (with cut barrel) across the left shoulder, carved with ammunition belt and helmet with cross emblem, apart from that unclothed, the neck carved with fine grooves, the navel accentuated, special care was bestowed on the modelling of the hands, slightly dam., missing parts (both legs below the knees), cracks, rep. (both forearms, barrel of the gun), on blocklike base;
a figure (Collection Schneidenberger 1925) of presumably the same carver can be found in the Museum für Völkerkunde Berlin. See: Kurt Krieger, Westafrikanische Plastik I, Bild 19.
