Description

wood, blotched blackish brown patina, female half figure, carved on habile handle, circular deepened ears, incised linear ornaments, slightly dam., cracks, paint rubbed off, on block-like base;
the Djibete are a small ethnical group in northern Nigeria. Only bird masks with long beaks are known from the Djibete. Nothing is known of their ritual use. Present figure therefore eminently rare !
