Description

wood, stained brown patina, round staff, crowned by an anthropomorphic head with the tongue stuck out, characteristic decor, concentric circles and intricate forms, metal jacket at the bottom of the staff missing (lighter patina), slightly dam., minor missing parts, abrasion of paint, metal base;
putting out the tongue was a ritualized challenge given by Maori warriors.
