light brown wood, shiny dark brown patina, oval base and seat, sitting caryatid figure with tribe-typical facial features, deepened dotted pattern, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
present posture was commonly used to represent ancestral spirits in the artistic vocabulary of the Chokwe and related peoples. It is associated with elders, people who are deeply lost in thought, and also with the burial position of chiefs and important members of the community.
