Description

wood, polychrome painted, equestrian in the centre, three struts and a standing figure serving as caryatids for the disc-shaped seat, two smaller female figures for assistance, one of them carrying palm nuts, slightly dam., missing parts (feet), rep. (base), cracks, cracked paint;
a stool is always a symbol for the high social rank of its owner. Present object shows a chief on his horse with his entourage. Such stools were used for representative purposes or at initiation ceremonies.
