Description
conical wooden core, coated with twisted grass fibre rings, decorated with buttons, strings of glass beads and metal discs, coiffure of blackened plant fibre;
the skill of making dolls is passed on from the mother to the daughter, as well as the doll itself. The dolls outward appearance is based on clothing once worn at initiation rites, which consists of bundles of twisted grass fibres rings.
The object Fertility doll “gimwane” with the object ID 3033314 was part of the auction 70th tribal art auction on September 8, 2012. The object with the lot number 183 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,800 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
