Present figure does not portray a fertility figure nor a “normally” pregnant woman, but a pregnant adulteress on whom weighs a curse because of her illicit behaviour.

The figure belongs to the sculptures called “isengo” (pl. “masengo”), which serve to convey the teachings and moral concepts of the “bwami” initiation society.
