Description

wood, brown patina, sititng on a simple stool, striking broad and edged shoulders, forming a broad base for the conical breasts, accentuation of the female sexual characteristics, incised geometrical decor, dam., missing parts through insect caused damage, above all backside (coiffure and nape, the base hollowed), cracks (belly, back, base), on metal plate;
the Igala occupy about five thousand square miles of land east of the Niger River and south of the Benue. The figures of the Igala are thought to bring good luck and prosperity to the families of their owners, and to serve as guardians of the children.
