Description

light weighted wood, matt middle brown patina, symmetrical body, a beautiful modelled face with simple facial features and helmet-shaped coiffure, ring-shaped loincloth, the legs subsequently cut and provided with bars for mortising the figure into the base, dam. (nose), paint rubbed off, crack, on pedestal;
the Bidyogo are a small ethnical group in Guinea Bissau, living on the Bissagos islands off the coast. Everything sacred bears the Creole name “iran”, and causes awe and respect among the people. Present figure presumably the depiction of a female ancestor.
