This is one of the rare face masks of the Dan, in which a disease, probably smallpox, is depicted. According to Fischer/Himmelheber, however, these masks were not used to cure the sick, but were used to entertain the villagers.
The object Face mask with dot painting with the object ID 3046980 was last part of the auction 95th Tribal Art Auction at October 24, 2020 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 155.
