Description

wood, heart-shaped deepened facial plane, dyed in reddish brown, black and white, pierced around the rim, min. dam., traces of abrasion;
the Pende people are living at the left bank of the the Kasai river. They became well known for their big masks, like “pumpu” and “giphogo”, rather than for their triangular miniature masks.


The object Face mask with board-shaped superstructure with the object ID 3037485 was part of the auction 78th tribal art auction on October 18, 2014. The object with the lot number 483 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,600 with an asking price of EUR 1,500.
