Description

wood, white and red pigment, of characteristic form, the facial plane entirely coated with copper strips (several pieces, fixed by nails), coiffure with rattan bowls, funnel-shaped superstructure of plant fibre, which originally was abundantly decorated with feathers, small traces of insect caused damage (inside), metal base;
it is said that in order to be allowed to wear a “kasangu” mask a warrior had to kill an enemy in combat.


The object Face mask “mukinka” with the object ID 3037258 was part of the auction 78th tribal art auction on October 18, 2014. The object with the lot number 489 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,400 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
