Description
wood, polychrome paint residues, base
This head sculpture was probably part of a dance crest.
An early pair of figures with comparable physiognomy, which entered the ethnographic collections of the Freiburg University as early as 1899, published in AHDRC 0186835.
The mouth, open as if to scream, lends the sculpture great expressiveness, which is further enhanced by the crusty surface texture resulting from several layers of paint.
