Description

light wood, black patina, male figure wearing a large sudanic hat, standing on the horse, rather than sitting, slightly dam., minor missing parts, abrasion of paint;
figures of a rider on horseback represent a bush spirit “mandeo” (pl. “mandebele”) or “tugu” (pl. “tugubele”), on his steed, and were usually kept on a personal shrine or used as an aid by the diviner.


The object Equestrian figure with the object ID 3042130 was part of the auction 86th Tribal Art Auction on May 27, 2017. The object with the lot number 90 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,800 with an asking price of EUR 450.
