Description

tortoise shell, butterfly-shaped, notches on the upper rim, calcification backside;
worn in pairs as ear ornament: used among the Kalinga, Bontoc and Ilonggot. Because of the second drilled hole at the bottom it might as well have been part of a breast ornament “isneg”, where several such shell ornaments were arranged one on top of each other (see D. Baradas, 1995, pl. 20).
