Description

tortoise shell, butterfly-shaped, notches on the upper rim, calcification backside;
worn in pairs as ear ornament: used among the Kalinga, Bontoc and Ilonggot. Because of the second drilled hole at the bottom it might as well have been part of a breast ornament “isneg”, where several such shell ornaments were arranged one on top of each other (see D. Baradas, 1995, pl. 20).


The object Ear ornament with the object ID 3033423 was last part of the auction 70th tribal art auction at September 8, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 3 achieved a sales price of EUR 300.
