Description

wood, kaolin, polychrome paint, wing-like projections on both sides of the head, remains of feather ornament, slightly dam., crack backside, abrasion of paint, base;
represents “angwusnasomtaka”, the “Crow Mother”. It is a chief “kachina” and often leads in a procession of important “kachinas”, particularly in the Powamu or Bean Dance. It walks with a stately sedate stride as it passes about the various “kivas” as ever larger numbers of “kachinas” join in its procession.
