Description

wood, blackish brown patina, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
the only carvings known to be made by the Bagirmi are these stylized dolls, which depict women wearing wide skirts. The dolls are carved from light-coloured wood, which is then blackened. It is thought that these dolls like the Namchi dolls had a ritual function.


The object Doll with the object ID 3041452 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 492 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,100 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
